Call and program of the 1st Panhellenic Meeting of water collectives

CALL

for the 1st Panhellenic Meeting of collectives coordination on water management

20-21 September 2014, Thessaloniki

To:

All collectives

struggling to defend

water as a common good

Comrades,

Social struggles have been spread across the country by all forms of collectives against the neoliberal policies of privatization of our common goods. Among these, a special place has water, privatization of which in its hole cycle, from the source to the tap, will have dramatic impacts on the life and environment and in particular, on water quality, availability, free access to it, its infrastructure and billing.

It is obvious that the struggle for the defense of water as a common good will be both more effective and winning, as strengthened solidarity, networking and coordination of individual collectives.

For this reason, K 136 took the initiative - and only this – to invite all collectives struggling to defend water as a common good in a first nationwide meeting to exchange views and experiences, open dialogue and effort synthetic convergence to:

- The approach of water as a common good

- Models of water management, governmental-municipal-cooperative, as well as exploring the possibility of synthesizing these

- The assessment of the existing situation and developments for water and the forms of struggle and movement

- Implementing a policy of solidarity, networking and coordination of the struggles of the water movements.

The procedures for all of the above can only have characteristics of direct democracy, "from below", without dependencies on the state-government power, away from political parties, without bureaucracy, by working in a circle and not a pyramid.

We invite you to actively participate in the meeting and to contribute to shaping the coordination of all collectives.
